OnePlus reassures that OxygenOS is here to stay, won’t be replaced with ColorOS

The other day, OnePlus made an announcement in which they will be further integrating with Oppo. As both companies are owned by the same company, BBK Electronics, this didn’t really come as a huge surprise, but it did leave some wondering about the future of the software running on the phones.

For those worried that OnePlus might switch over to Oppo’s ColorOS, you can rest assured that won’t happen. This is according to MySmartPrice who clarified it with OnePlus where the company said that their phones will still run OxygenOS out of the box, at least for phones that are sold outside of China.

The confusion arose when earlier this year, OnePlus announced that the OnePlus 9 for China would be sold with ColorOS 11. Prior to this, OnePlus’ phones in China ran a tweaked version of OxygenOS called HydrogenOS, but that changed with the OnePlus 9 where the company swapped it out for Oppo’s ColorOS.

This led to some wondering if the further integration with Oppo also meant that this change would apply to all of their phones, but it seems that will not be the case. The integration isn’t really a merger as both companies will continue to operate separately, it’s just the integration means the better sharing of resources that could help further development efforts.
